Photography Tips from Commercial Photographer Vincent Laforet

http://www.silberstudios.tv Commercial photographer Vincent Laforet joins us today on the Marc Silber show to talk about his approach to photography. He provides us with photography techniques and tips for both amateurs and professionals alike. For six years, Vince was a photojournalist for the New York Times, where he worked on a team that won the Pulitzer Prize for its 9/11 coverage. As a photojournalist, Vince often had to choose a single image that most accurately captured the essence of an event.

He advises people to put the camera down, walk around, and ask themselves a series of questions, such as "What really is special about this place?" Learning about the history of a photo shoot location or finding the best time of day for shadows and lighting is just as important for creating a great photo composition. When looking through the lens, a photographer needs to make sure that a photo will elicit emotions and thoughts.

Vince points out that many people romanticize the life of a photographer - they forget about the preparation and packing of equipment that accompanies every photo shoot. Carrying too much equipment slows down the photographer and may result in missed images and opportunities, not enough and you can also miss shots, so do your research and be prepared including your memory cards.
